With
Turkish economic growth figures released in the first quarter of this year,
Turkish officials have said they have overtaken China and India in growth
rates.
Turkey's
economy grew 7.4% in the first quarter of 2018, the Turkish Statistics
Institute said on Monday.
The Turkish Minister of Development "Lutfi Elvan" said his country surpassed China and India in growth by registering growth of 7.4% in the first quarter of 2018. Turkey's recent growth rate makes it the second-fastest growing country in the world.
The
Turkish Minister said that the growth rate of the developed countries is 1.9%
and in Europe 2.2%, pointing out that the summary of these data indicate that
Turkey achieved a growth rate three or four times faster than developed
countries.
Credit rating agencies and institutions have set much lower expectations for Turkey's economic growth rate, a move seen by senior Turkish officials as politically motivated and aimed at conveying a negative image of the Turkish economy and influencing Turkish voters in the early parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for June 24.
